CONFESSIONAL TYPOGRAPHY - RAY FENWICK
Blogs, micro-blogs and social networks are pervasive forces in culture today, allowing us to easily share the intimate details of our lives with friends and strangers alike. Personal confessions and confidences used to be kept in journals, hidden away in a drawer to protect our private thoughts from outside eyes, but things have changed. We now seem intent on sharing our journals and diaries with as many people as possible. What if, rather than hitting the "post" button, we had to design one of these confessions? What if it was someone else's confession?
In this workshop, we'll use experimental, hand-crafted typography of all kinds to give personal and appropriate form to a confession or confidence.
Workshop cost is $15 for AIGA members ($20 for non-members), is open to all design students, and includes lunch.

WHO? WHAT? WHEN? - WILL STAEHLE
The beauty of design is in discovering the small connections that exist between color, form, and composition. The question is, how can a designer build new connections between seemingly improbable elements? This is what students will explore during the course of this workshop.
WHO? WHAT? WHEN? will invite students to play a design game in which they will each create a thematic poster from a matrix of various people, concepts, and styles/time periods.
Each design period has its own cues, colors and type-styles. From Victorian advertising, to Art Deco to Soviet propaganda, it is easy to envision any time period in design and the design elements associated with it. But what happens when disparate elements are forced to be combined together?
We will be exploring the themes of these distinct periods in design history and then push them into an entirely different place.
Using various techniques ranging from found art to illustration and lettering, students will create posters based on a WHO? WHAT? WHEN? matrix, in which their design skills will be challenged to encompass situations such as in these examples:
WHO • WHAT • WHEN
Let the strangeness begin!
Workshop cost is $15 for AIGA members ($20 for non-members), is open to all design students, and includes lunch.
SAVE AS2 \\ CLAYMATION DESIGN EXPERIMENT
Synthetic Infatuation and friends (Amy Rabas and Jen Soik) orchestrate a design playtime involving tubs of clay, cameras, and anarchy. This workshop is targeted at alumni and other practicing designers with nothing better to do on a wintery Stevens Point afternoon.
From concepting to storyboarding to shooting and editing, small teams of 2-3 funky dudes/dudettes will create a short claymation (or other stop-motion) piece over the span of a day. Seeing as how neither Synthetic nor its accomplices have ever attempted such a feat as this, it will certainly be a roller-coaster ride of excitment and angst.
Workshop cost is $20, is open to all alumni and other practicing designers, and includes fancy clay-mating clay as well as some form of lunch (which will not be made out of clay).
